Are you thinking about painting your front door? I just painted mine and I love the way it turned out! In this post, I’ll show you how to get a quick front door makeover with paint!

When we bought and renovated our house several years ago, I painted the front door a sky blue color. I’ve loved it for a long time, but was ready for something new.

Before I decorated the porch for fall, I wanted to give our front porch a quick, frugal makeover and paint the front door. And I’m in love!

If you are looking at your front porch and thinking something needs updated, try painting the front door! It’s a quick fix that can have dramatic results!

I got this project done in just a few hours, with drying time and a baby needing fed. And it just cost me a quart of paint!

The sky blue front door was well loved and adored for several years, but I’m all about navy blue right now. I think it looks so fresh, classic, and will be a great color year round with different decor.

Supplies:

Paint: I used Behr Premium Plus Paint + Primer in Exterior Semi Gloss. The paint color is Express Blue.

Painter’s tape

Steps:

1. Remove the hardware.

For the cleanest look, remove the hardware before you begin to paint. I was able to unscrew mine easily.

2. Clean and wipe the door.

You will want to remove any dirt and dust from the door. I just used a soapy rag, and let it dry. If your door is extra dirty, you could try a degreaser.

3. Tape off any windows.

I am lucky our door just has one window!

4. Apply the first coat.

I used a 2″ brush to paint the whole door. You could use a 4″ paint roller on flat areas if you wish, and a paint brush for detailed grooves.

Let the first coat dry.

5. Apply the second coat.

Once the first coat is dry, you can apply the second coat.

6. Put the hardware back on.

Once your final coat is dry, screw the hardware back on. And you are done!

Painting a front door is really not hard and can be done pretty quickly!

I love how big of an impact this change made on our house for just a few hours of work and a quart of paint.

The navy will look great with decor for every season. I especially love it decorated with fall decor!

Speaking of fall decor, the bench and cushion are from Kirkland’s – my favorite place to buy the cutest home decor that’s also budget friendly.
