It’s yard sale season!!
I love this time of year when everyone is cleaning out their junk and putting it for sale!
We love to go to yard sales when we are already out and see those big neon poster board signs or we sometimes map a few out and get up early and go. A lot of stuff is just junk, but we have found some really great things before!
I love to look for furniture I can refinish, tools, craft supplies, and antiques.
This past weekend we went to over a dozen, but didn’t find a whole lot we had to have. Some are great, some are a flop! You never know till you go though, and the sales that look like they don’t have anything you want, sometimes surprise you!
I did find a sad little table for $5 that I knew I could makeover easily. I don’t like to spend much more than $5 on these type tables, as you can find a lot at that price range.
Here’s the makeover:
Table Before: Sad.
Supplies:
- Table
- Sander
- Paint – I used this kind from Hobby Lobby
- Knob – I got mine from Hobby Lobby for $2 (50% off ever other week!)
Cost:
- $5 for the table (yard sale)
- $3 for paint (40% off with coupon at Hobby Lobby) – used about 1/2 the container
- $2 for the new knob
- Total = $10
Side Table Makeover:
Sanded the table down first –
Painting – I put two coats on.
Once that dried really good, I went back and sanded the top smooth and roughed the edges up a little for a distressed look –
Added my new knob –
Woo-lah! A beautiful spring blue, distressed side table!
If you’ve never been to a yard sale or are a yard sale newbie, I would definitely say to keep going! You really never know what you might find! If you need some new furniture or decorations, see what you can find to upcycle or refinish.
We have found brand new items, really unique antiques, lots of craft supplies, lawn mowers, countless tools, and great furniture to refinish. Some things were too cheap to pass up, especially if we know we will need it for an upcoming project. Some items were craft supplies I use all the time (heck yes I will pay wayyy less for that!), and some things we have refinished, upcycled, or just cleaned up and made some side money from!
So if you see a neon poster board yard sale sign, don’t be afraid to stop by and see what they have! It really can be a lot of fun!
