What is freezer cooking?

Freezer cooking is so simple, but can sound so intimidating. All you want to do is make a few extra meals to freeze, that you can easily thaw, heat, and serve.

If you are already making a meal, why not multiple it while you have all of the ingredients out, make extra, and freeze the meals for later?

My 15 Best Freezer Cooking Tips:

  1. Start small. Just double a recipe that would freeze well, and have one extra meal.
  2. Only make meals you know your family will eat. There are tons of freezer recipes out there, but to avoid waste and extra work for you, just pick the ones you know your family will like.
  3. Buy meat in bulk when you find a great deal. If I find a great deal on chicken breasts, I stock up, and then make a lot of chicken freezer meals.
  4. Block out time to do your freezer cooking. Schedule it and let your family know you will be busy during that time.
  5. Double check to make sure you have all of the ingredients the day before you plan to cook.
  6. Make sure you have plenty of freezer bags and containers. The foil pans from the dollar store also work great!
  7. Have a way to label your freezer meals, so you know what everything is. Once it’s frozen, things don’t look exactly the same and it can be hard to tell what is what. You can use a Sharpie marker on bags, or sticker labels.
  8. Once you make your freezer meals, make a menu plan for the week to use the meals.
  9. Make a list of the meals your family loves, so you have ideas of what to make for freezer meals.
  10. Listen to music while you cook – it makes it so much more fun!
  11. Ask someone in your family to help you with the dishes when you get done.
  12. Try no cook freezer meals when you don’t have a lot of time. These can be easily made with chicken breasts and different marinades.
  13. Focus on one meat when you make freezer meals. Brown a lot of ground beef for meals like spaghetti sauce, taco meat, and chili.
  14. To speed things up, use estimates of spices and seasonings instead of measuring everything. This gets easier the more you cook!
  15. Keep a freezer meal inventory list to keep up with what you have and what you need to make more of.

Alright, those are my 15 best freezer cooking tips! It’s not hard at all to get started making freezer meals to save time and money.
