Are you looking for painted terra cotta flower pots ideas? In this post, I’m sharing a few super simple ideas for you!

Spring is one of my favorite times of the year! Decorating with bright colors, the sunshine, planting flowers, cleaning and updating my home… The list goes on and so do the price tags!

I was a little shocked when I saw how much nice flower pots cost! I decided to go with the classic terra cotta pots and get creative with what I already had at home!

And you know what?

I love my flower pots!!! Even more than the pricey ones I debated on at the store. They are unique and give our house just a little more touch of home!

A great spring DIY project! Painted terra cotta flower pots are an easy way to update your home and garden for spring on a budget!

Supplies Needed:

  • Terra Cotta Pots and Saucers (These come in about 3 different sizes.)
  • Outdoor Paints and paintbrushes
  • Flowers or herbs
  • Any additional decorations (Number stickers, twine, ribbon)

Cost:

I got mine from Home Depot. They had a variety of sizes. I ended up getting mostly the 6 in. size like these for $1.32. And the 6 in. saucer like these for $1.32.

Total cost per flower pot = $2.64

Ideas for Inspiration:

  • Chalkboard paint
  • Rustic white washed paint
  • Bright color and gold stripes
  • Polka dots
  • House number
  • Last name initial
  • monogram
  • Red, white, and blue
  • Wrap pots with rope
  • Tie twine around the top

The ideas are really endless! Here’s what I came up with!

Chalkboard Painted Herb Pots

I free-handed an oval with chalkboard paint, and planted my herbs in the pots. Just write what herb you’ve got growing with chalk! Easy!

*Obviously, this will wash when it rains, so just keep that in mind if you choose this design. I started with actual plants, not seeds, so I knew what I was growing and can easily re-write after it rains.

Rustic White Washed with Rope

I just roughly painted a terra cotta pot with white paint, and hot glued a string of rope around the top. I planted a sweet, little succulent in this one and it’s sitting on our coffee table.

House Number

I printed a vinyl with my Cricut machine, but this could be easily done with paint or scrapbook stickers.

Hello Amanda, really good idea with the chalk paint, i find that i either cant see the stick with the plant name writing on it or it is hard to read the writing it is so small. Thank you.
