I shared our living room design board a little while back, and I’m so happy to say our living room makeover is done!
This was a small makeover and we worked with an even smaller budget. But nonetheless, I’m so happy with our semi-new space.
I’ll show you our living room makeover on a budget below with all the pictures and what we bought!

Our Vision:
We wanted a rustic, semi-farmhouse look, but not like we went on a shopping spree at Hobby Lobby. Our living room is really small, so we wanted it to be as light and open as possible, but still cozy.
The Budget:
$300.
Yep, only $300. So, that meant no furniture changes. Which was fine, because our furniture is still in good shape and we like our hand me down pieces. They have character – a.k.a. scuffs. 🙂

The Before:
The before was fine, nothing too awful, but we weren’t in love with it as a whole.

With our small budget, we had to keep the furniture and many decorations.

The After:
If you were expecting a jaw dropping after, you might be disappointed. The room is recognizably the same, but we definitely feel and see the changes.
We got rid of the yellow paint, which is hard to see in the before pictures.
The rug really brightens the room up and gives it more texture and coziness.

Want a little tour?
This corner of the room is my very favorite.
This antique radio cabinet is from my grandparents.
I found the metal measuring cups on clearance at Hobby Lobby, and already had the other decorations.
I wanted to add some fun farm pictures, but I thought why buy pictures of random animals when we have our own?
So I ordered black and white pictures of our pig and a couple of our goats, and framed them in barn wood frames.
I love the way they turned out!
Love hand me downs!
This crate was also a hand me down from my grandparents. I used to have it sitting on the floor, but my husband had the idea to hang it on the wall. And now, it’s a fun and rustic shelf.
My Mom found this pillow covers with a Groupon – I love them! They fit perfectly in this room.
I found this sign on clearance at Kirkland’s and just love it!
I love our tobacco basket – one of our Hobby Lobby finds.
Decorating the coffee table is always hard for me, but I like using antique items like this antique scale and blue Mason jars.
Magazines tucked in a wicker tray are super functional and give the coffee table more texture.
Still in progress…
This side of the room is not complete. I can’t decide what to put over the T.V. – possibly a handmade barn wood sign or a small collage. To be determined.
This windmill we found at Hobby Lobby when it was 50% off. I decided it was rustic enough to not look too store bought.
My DIY “Let’s Stay Home” pillow seems perfect in this cozy recliner with a even cozier throw.
Blankets tucked in this wire basket keep them tucked away, but easy to grab.
This antique wooden box with blue Mason jars keeps cables and cords out of sight.
This pouf is one of my favorite things I found! It can be used as an ottoman or a seat if needed. Perfect for our small room where we can’t fit a lot of large furniture.
A rustic window pane from Kirkland’s hangs on this side of the television.
I found this Farm Fresh sign at a bargain store, and just added some greenery I already had and a favorite candle.
This curtain tie backs really help bring in more light. I actually already had them from my college days and just found them! Perfect and free!
The dogs love to sit on the bench and look out the window!
Living Room Makeover on a Budget – We love it!
I know our living room is not perfectly designed or decorated, but to me it’s perfect.
When I decorate spaces in our home, I decorate them for us, with things we love. Nothing has to be picture perfect, it just has to be perfect for us.
I’ve said many times that I love to add character and personality to our home. When you DIY and use hand me down pieces, you are always adding character and personality.
Even if you are on a tight budget, you can have a space full of character and personality that is perfect for you.
Speaking of budget… how did we do?
