DIY Goat Playhouse & Shelter

Looking for a simple and super frugal goat playhouse and shelter area? We made this little DIY goat play area with free pallets!

So, I’m pretty much obsessed with our sweet goats. We have 5 female goats right now – 3 Nigerian dwarf (2 twins), a pygmy/fainting mix, and what we think is a Boer mix goat.

These goats are way too much fun! They love grazing, pulling on small trees (and our clothes), and jumping around.

We wanted to build them an extra shelter that also serves as a little playhouse. Using only scrap materials (aka – FREE), we were able to make a DIY goat playhouse & shelter all in one.

I’ll show you how we made it!

DIY Goat Playhouse & Shelter

Supplies used:

  • 3 wood pallets
  • 2 X 8 scrap wood
  • Scrap 2 X 4 wood
  • Screws

How we made our DIY Goat Playhouse & Shelter:

(If it looks like construction in the background, it’s because we are BUILDING A BARN! Stay tuned.)

  1. Stand 3 pallets up and fasten together with screws.
  2. Measure and cut 2 X 8 wood to cover the top. Screw in place.
  3. Use 2 X 4 wood underneath to help sturdy the top.
  4. Make the ramp from 2 X 8 wood and fasten at the top with screws.
  5. Measure the width of the ramp and cut scrap 2 X 4 wood to make a few blocks. Screw this in place every foot or so. This is so the goats have something to climb and do not slip down the ramp.

The goats can climb up the ramp to get closer to yummy trees or for a treat on top. (Hey Maggie and Nellie!)

They may enjoying taking a nap up there, too!

I really like how this playhouse functions as a shelter too. The goats can go underneath for shade, shelter from the rain, or to get some minerals.

We are really enjoying this DIY goat playhouse & shelter, but I think the goats are enjoying it more! 🙂

The Goat House

We had built this “patio” shelter for the dogs. Since we’ve fenced the whole yard and they don’t have a pen anymore, they get to run all over the yard and use our patio as their new chill spot.

So, we gave it to the goats and they love it! They take naps there, eat hay, and take a break from the sun. I, of course, had to make them a sign so everyone knows it’s the goat house.

Fiona is so cute wanting to be in all the pictures!

I just used some scrap wood to make them little ramps to climb up.

And I keep my broom on top of the house so I can quickly clean up their sweet messes.

More goat pics! 😉 These are my twins, Charlene and Fiona.

And I can’t forget, Petunia Pig!
