Let’s Stay Home – DIY Pillow Cover Tutorial

This post may contain affiliate links. If you click and make a purchase, I may receive a small commission, at no extra cost to you. I only recommend products and services I use and love. Thanks for supporting The Little Frugal House!

Ready for a super cute and easy DIY project? This DIY pillow cover comes together in just a few steps and is so cute! I love the phrase, “Let’s Stay Home”, because Home is my all time favorite place! But, you can make any image you would like.

Let’s Stay Home – DIY Pillow Cover Tutorial

Supplies Needed:

Pillow Cover (I grabbed mine at Hobby Lobby with a 40% off coupon = $3 – here is a similar one) Black Iron On material Pillow form Heat press machine or iron and ironing board Cricut machine and mat Let’s Stay Home Image

Directions:

  1. Download this image or create your own in Canva.
  2. Upload the image to Cricut Design Space. Click Simple and Continue.
  3. Remove the excess white space with the tool.
  4. Save as a Cut image.
  5. Insert the image and size it for your pillow cover. Mine is 9″x10″.
  6. Select Cut.
  7. Important: Make sure you set the Mirror Image on (it should look backwards).
  8. Choose your material setting on your Cricut machine (Iron On).
  9. Place your iron on material glossy side down on your Cricut mat and press go.
  10. Remove the excess material from your image.
  11. Place your image on your pillow cover.
  12. If you are using a heat press machine, preheat your machine to 400 degrees. Place your pillow cover on the heat press with a Teflon sheet on top. Press for 30-40 seconds. Let cool and peel clear transfer paper off.
  13. If you are using an iron, heat your iron to the hottest setting. Place your image on your pillow cover with a Teflon sheet or thin material. Press your iron for 1-2 minutes. Let cool and peel clear transfer paper off.
  14. Decorate with your cute new pillow!
I love my DIY pillow! Let’s stay home is a perfect motto for us because we truly are home bodies. I would never leave my house if that were a realistic option! But ya know, there’s groceries and craft supplies out there… Similar pillows sell for $20 and up, but you can make this pillow cover for about $5! I know a lot of people are afraid of DIY projects, but I really love them even if they don’t always turn out perfect. Ok, they hardly EVER turn out perfect! But, when I look around my home I see personality and character. And that makes me happier than any designer décor ever could! So, appreciate the imperfectness in your home and go for that DIY project! Have fun!

I had never thought it would be so easy to make a pillow because I didn’t know about this machine.

This is super quick and simple little project! And now I’m falling in love with a Cricut machine 🙂 I think I put it in my Christmas list 🙂 It’s amazing what you can do with it. Thanks for sharing Amanda!
