In this list, I’m sharing 37 things you should always buy at Dollar Tree, along with a helpful section on what not to buy, seasonal items to keep an eye out for, and smart shopping tips to help you stretch your budget even further.

The best things to buy at Dollar Tree are items that are consistently priced lower than grocery and big-box stores, especially household basics, craft supplies, party items, and seasonal décor. Dollar Tree is most worth it for everyday essentials, organization items, and holiday supplies — while some food and electronics are better purchased elsewhere.

If you love scoring a good deal, Dollar Tree isn’t just for random impulse buys — it can actually be one of your smartest stops for everyday essentials. For many items, you’ll find that paying just $1 (or less) is more than enough — and running back to big-box stores becomes optional.

In this post, I’ll share the things you should always buy at Dollar Tree — the items I’ve found give you the biggest bang for just one dollar. You’ll get:

  • The best categories and exact items I trust for quality

There are so many fun things to find up and down the aisles of Dollar Tree. I find something new every time I go!

And just a quick note to keep in mind: Not all Dollar Tree stores are the same. I visit several in my area that are completely different and keep different items in stock. Some have better arts and crafts sections, some have better choices with organizing items, and some have a lot more food than others. So, you may want to visit a few to see which store has the best selection.

What Not to Buy at Dollar Tree

While Dollar Tree has plenty of great deals, there are a few categories where the savings don’t always add up.

  • Name-brand food items with smaller packaging – Always check the unit price; grocery stores are often cheaper.
  • Large cleaning products – Dollar Tree sizes are usually much smaller than what you’d get elsewhere for a similar price.
  • Batteries – They tend to drain faster, making them more expensive long-term.
  • Electronics and cords – Quality can be hit or miss, especially for frequent use.
  • Overly trendy décor – Fun, but often better for short-term use rather than long-lasting value.

Knowing what not to buy is just as important as knowing what’s worth grabbing.

I made centerpieces for a baby shower recently and saved a bundle with their adorable miniature stuffed animals. All in pink for Baby Emma!! The hostess wanted to reimburse me for the materials but I ended up keeping all of them for my craft stash. Those little fur balls were too cute nor to keep.

White tissue is actually cheaper at Walgreen’s around Christmas. School supplies are cheaper elsewhere in August and September; try Walgreen’s, Staples, Office Depot/Office Max.
